BWS RECEIVES WILL EISNER HALL OF FAME AWARD

July 25, 2008

BWS was one of four honorees selected by voters from this year’s slate of fifteen nominees for induction into the Hall of Fame. The other 2008 inductees are Len Wein, Arnold Drake and John Broome. Voting for the Eisners is restricted to professionals working in the comics industry, including creators, publishers, editors and retailers.

The presentation was made on Friday, July 25th at the Comic-Con International in San Diego, at the annual gala Eisner Awards ceremony. Accepting for Windsor-Smith, who was unable to attend, was Barry’s friend and publisher from Fantagraphics Books, Gary Groth.

Barry Windsor-Smith has received a 2008 Will Eisner Comic Industry Hall of Fame Award. The Eisners are considered the Oscars of the comic book industry. "The primary purpose of these awards," says Awards Administrator Jackie Estrada, "is to call attention to and celebrate the best that the comics artform has to offer."
